Step Away From The Manuscript

Sometimes you just plain need to put your manuscript down for a while.

Of course, you may not always be able to do this if you’re up against a deadline. And it’s certainly not wise to do that if you’ve been neglecting it altogether. Trust me when I say the longer you leave it sitting, the easier it is to convince yourself it was never any good to begin with.

Writerbrain. It sucks sometimes. Always second-guessing yourself.

But at the same time, it’s good to set it down if you’re hung up on something – a plot twist, a dull passage, and impossible continuity breach…anything that’s arrested your momentum and looks insurmountable at the moment. Continue reading “Step Away From The Manuscript”

When You Want Something Done, Ask A (Crazy) Busy Person To Do It

So I’ve got a book to partially rewrite.

And I blog – on multiple platforms.

I need to write three different freelance articles this week.

I work full-time and I’m gearing up for a big project there.

My son’s IEP is next week (for those of you without a special-needs kid, this is where they tell me they’re cutting some of his therapy to save money and where I tell them I’m not signing a damn thing and we’re going to go a few rounds over this until you give him what he needs).

My daughter has her first Homecoming dance on Saturday.
